Notes: Causes of SMI#:
1.
GBL_SMI_EN must be 1 to enable SMI
2.
EOS must be written to 1 to reenable SMI for the next one
3.
Some SMI#s are considered “synchronous”, in that the processor must recognize the SMI# prior to
completing the instruction (I/O read, I/O write, Memory read, or Memory write) that must cause the
SMI#. This is accomplished by having the SMI# signal go active to the processor prior to the
processor observing the RDY# signal that terminates the cycle. SMI#s marked with X in the Synch
column are treated as Synchronous.
4.
NMI2SMI_STS isn’t gated by TCO_EN.
5.
An SMI# must be fully enabled when CMI is also enabled to trap cycles. If SMI# is not enabled in
conjunction with the trap enabling, then hardware behavior is undefined. [Note: added as per SUN#
47], part 3.

PCI Express* SCI
PCI Express* ports and the IMCH (via NSI) have the ability to cause PME using
messages. When a PME message is received, the PCI_EXP_STS bit is set. If
the PCI_EXP_EN bit is also set, CMI can cause an SCI via the GPE1_STS
register.
