Example 5-2. Dedicated MAC, Auto ARP Response and RMCPport Filtering
This example shows a common configuration; the BMC has a dedicated MAC and IP address. Automatic
ARP responses will be enabled as well as RMCP port filtering. By enabling Automatic ARP responses the
BMC is not required to send the gratuitous ARPs as it did in the previous example. Since ARP requests
are now filtered, in order for the host to receive the ARP requests, the Manageability to Host filter will
be configured to send the ARP requests to the host as well.
For demonstration purposes, the dedicated MAC address will be calculated by reading the System MAC
address and adding 1 do it, assume the System MAC is AABBCCDC. The IP address for this example will
be 1.2.3.4.
Additionally, the XSUM filtering will be enabled.
Note that not all Intel Ethernet Controllers support automatic ARP responses, please refer to product
specific documentation.
