17.3.5. I²C State Register
The read-only I²C State Register, shown in Table 124, provides information about the state
of the I²C bus and the I²C bus controller. When the DIAG bit of the I²C Mode Register is
cleared, this register provides information about the internal state of the I²C controller and
I²C bus; see Table 126.
When the DIAG bit of the I²C Mode Register is set, this register returns the value of the
I²C controller state machine.

This field defines the current state of the I²C controller. It is the most significant nibble of
the internal state machine. Table 126 defines the states for this field.
Least Significant Nibble of the I²C State Machine
This field defines the substates for the states defined by I2CSTATE_H. Table 127 defines
the values for this field.
