Serial Peripheral Interface
The Serial Peripheral Interface (SPI) is a synchronous interface allowing several SPI-type
devices, such as EEPROMs, to be interconnected. SPI features include:
• Full-duplex, synchronous, character-oriented communication
• Four-wire interface
• Data transfer rates up to a maximum of one-half the system clock frequency
• Error detection
• Dedicated Baud Rate Generator
Architecture
The SPI can be configured as either a master (in single or multimaster systems) or a slave
as illustrated in Figures 22 through 24.
