6.2.2 Timer/Counter 2 with Additional Compare/Capture/Reload
The timer 2 with additional compare/capture/reload features is one of the most powerful peripheral
units of the C515C. lt can be used for all kinds of digital signal generation and event capturing like
pulse generation, pulse width modulation, pulse width measuring etc.
Timer 2 is designed to support various automotive control applications (ignition/injection-control,
anti-lock-brake ... ) as weil as industrial applications (DC-, three-phase AC- and stepper-motor
control, frequency generation, digital-to-analog conversion, process control ...). Please note that
this timer is not equivalent to timer 2 of the C501.
The C515C timer 2 in combination with the compare/capture/reload registers allows the following
operating modes:
– Compare : up to 4 PWM signals with 65535 steps at maximum, and 600 ns resolution
– Capture : up to 4 high speed capture inputs with 600 ns resolution
– Reload : modulation of timer 2 cycle time
The block diagram in figure 6-19 shows the general configuration of timer 2 with the additional
compare/capture/reload registers. The I/O pins which can used for timer 2 control are located as
multifunctional port functions at port 1 (see table 6-3).
