8. High-Speed Differential I/O Interfaces
and DPA in Arria II Devices
This chapter describes the high-speed differential I/O features and resources, the
functionality of the serializer/deserializer (SERDES), and the dynamic phase
alignment (DPA) circuitry in Arria® II devices.
This chapter contains the following sections:
â âLVDS Channelsâ on page 8â2
â âLVDS SERDES and DPA Block Diagramâ on page 8â7
â âDifferential Transmitterâ on page 8â8
â âDifferential Receiverâ on page 8â11
â âProgrammable Pre-Emphasis and Programmable VOD.â on page 8â10
â âDifferential I/O Terminationâ on page 8â20
â âPLLsâ on page 8â21
â âLVDS and DPA Clock Networksâ on page 8â21
â âSource-Synchronous Timing Budgetâ on page 8â23
â âDifferential Pin Placement Guidelinesâ on page 8â27
â âSetting Up an LVDS Transmitter or Receiver Channelâ on page 8â36
Arria II devices have the following dedicated circuitry for high-speed differential I/O
support:
â Differential I/O buffer
â Transmitter serializer
â Receiver deserializer
â Data realignment block (bit slip)
â DPA block
â Synchronizer (FIFO buffer)
Arria II devices support the following high-speed differential I/O standards:
â LVDS
â mini-LVDS
â RSDS
â LVPECL
â Bus LVDS (BLVDS) for Arria II GX devices
1 True mini-LVDS and RSDS inputs are not supported. The LVPECL I/O standard is
only used for phase-locked loop (PLL) clock inputs in differential mode.
