The DC voltage that can be measured across pins 19 and 20 is proportional to the laser
monitor diode current through a 200 Ω resistor in its path. This output remains constant
and can be used to monitor correct operation of laser control circuitry, a deviation
indicates faulty behaviour. A schematic and typical behaviour are shown in Figure 7 and
Figure 8. The SFF MSA defines that Vmon must be in the range of 0.01 V and 0.2 V. The
Infineon OC-48 transceiver has a nominal range of 0.04 to 0.08 V. Leave pins
unconnected if feature is not required.
