TLC320AD90C Datasheet, PDF (7/51 Pages) Texas Instruments – Stereo Audio Codec
1 Introduction
The TLC320AD90C is designed to be 100% compliant with the audio codec ‘97 (AC‘97) standard
specification. The codec is designed to be controlled by a digital controller. The two fixed 48-kHz sample
rate DACs support a stereo PCM output channel that contains a mix, determined by the codec controller,
of all digital audio sources, including an internal synthesizer, and any other digital sources. The output of
these DACs is mixed with additional analog sources and sent to the independently-controlled LINE_OUT
output. For a speakerphone, the MONO_OUT output delivers either mic only or a mono mix of sources to
a telephony subsystem. The ADC path supports two channels of fixed 48-kHz sample rate inputs. The
standard stereo PCM input channel supports the record of any mono or stereo source, or a mix of sources.
1.1 Features
• Compatible with INTEL audio codec ‘97 specification
• Very high sound quality
• Tone free ADC and DAC in PC environment
• Exceeds many performance parameters of the AC‘97 specification
• Serial (AC-Link) interface port
• Standard 64-pin LQFP (TQFP) package
• Full-duplex codec with 16-bit resolution ADC and DAC
• 48-kHz sample rate
• Four analog stereo inputs: LINE_IN, CD, VIDEO, and AUX
• Line level mono inputs for speakerphone and BEEP
• Unique mono mic input allows quick switching from two different sources without pop noises
• Buffered voltage reference output is designed for microphone biasing
• Very high performance CDROM input rejects 5x – standard pseudo-diff design – yeilding 65 dB
rejection of CDROM servo noises
• Very high PSRR – (55 dB – including very high frequency bands) 5x better than standard – low
noise easily obtained at system level
• Very low interchannel crosstalk (<100 dB) preserves stereo fidelity
• High fidelity linear phase FIR digital filter for ADC and DAC
• High fidelity linear phase Bessel DAC filters utilized
• ADC and DAC THD met for full scale (1 VRMS) levels
• Stereo line level output
• Mono output for speakerphone
• Power management support
• Low operating current consumption – typically less than 55 mA total when outputs are driving
10-kΩ loads
• Very low standby current (100 µA) in power-down mode
• Interfaces to 5-V or 3.3-V digital controller
