Architectural Overview
1.1.4.1
â Two Synchronous Serial Interface modules (SSI)
â Integrated Interchip Sound (I2S) Module
The following sections provide more detail on each of these communications functions.
Ethernet Controller (see page 804)
Ethernet is a frame-based computer networking technology for local area networks (LANs). Ethernet
has been standardized as IEEE 802.3. This specification defines a number of wiring and signaling
standards for the physical layer, two means of network access at the Media Access Control
(MAC)/Data Link Layer, and a common addressing format.
The Stellaris® Ethernet Controller consists of a fully integrated media access controller (MAC) and
network physical (PHY) interface and has the following features:
â Conforms to the IEEE 802.3-2002 specification
â 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX IEEE-802.3 compliant. Requires only a dual 1:1 isolation transformer
interface to the line
â 10BASE-T/100BASE-TX ENDEC, 100BASE-TX scrambler/descrambler
â Full-featured auto-negotiation
â Multiple operational modes
â Full- and half-duplex 100 Mbps
â Full- and half-duplex 10 Mbps
â Power-saving and power-down modes
â Highly configurable
â Programmable MAC address
â LED activity selection
â Promiscuous mode support
â CRC error-rejection control
â User-configurable interrupts
â Physical media manipulation
â MDI/MDI-X cross-over support through software assist
â Register-programmable transmit amplitude
â Automatic polarity correction and 10BASE-T signal reception
â Efficient transfers using Micro Direct Memory Access Controller (µDMA)
â Separate channels for transmit and receive
