The capacitor Ct determines the time period td, for which the outputs are kept in an active state after reaching the
threshold voltage Vt. The relationship between the time delay td and the capacitance Ct can be calculated as follows:

The time period td can be chosen to be of any desired length. For long delay times td, appropriately big capacitors
must then be used. In order to ensure that, when using large capacitance values of several microfarads and more,
the discharge current does not cause a malfunction, a current limiting circuit has been integrated into the device.
The maximum capacitance which can be used depends in the last resort on the leakage current of the capacitor. The
latter works in opposition to the charging current ICharge, and thus influences the delay time td.
