Input and output capacitors
For proper functionality the STCC50x1 device requires 1 μF decoupling ceramic capacitors
CIN, CVDD and COUT (see Figure 4). These capacitors should be placed as close as
possible to the corresponding pins.
The electrolytic capacitor CVBUS (see Figure 4) is required by the USB specification to
suppress the voltage and current transients caused by hot plugging/unplugging the
peripheral devices. This capacitor should be placed as close as possible to the USB
connector. The recommended value is 150 μF, low ESR type is preferred.
If the VIN supply path is longer than approx. 150 mm, an additional capacitor is required to
be connected in parallel to the CIN to suppress VIN overvoltage transients caused by supply
path inductance and fast current changes. The minimum value is 10 μF, low ESR type is
preferred.
