2 Introduction to the CAPS user interface
Main window
The main window displays the CAPS design entry forms.
The window may consist of multiple panes, depending on
the current design function.
Figure 1: CAPS user interface shows an example of a
typical design window with two panes.
1. A navigation pane appears on the left.
2. A current work pane appears on the right.
Some modes of operation may also have function tabs
across the top of the work window, as shown in Figure 1.
Output log window
The output log window echoes all commands executed by
CAPS along with informational and progress messages.
Note: This window is made visible by checking the Output Log
option in the View menu.

The status bar displays:
• Current project name.
• Target device.
• Today’s date. (MM/DD/YYYY)
• Current time (HH:MM:SS)
te P The CAPS user interface provides the following additional aids to using the software.
le • Descriptive pop-up error messages.
so • Explicit design flow sequencing that models the actual design process.
b • Detailed directions on most forms that describe input field formats and how to use the

The project menu
The project menu allows users to manage the project life cycle, set project preferences and exit
the CAPS program.
This section describes the operations available in the project menu.
