1. INTRODUCTION
Quadrax Ferrule Insertion Tools 1976593-[ ] are used
to insert the ferrule into the shell of Quadrax pin and
socket contacts. If used properly, the tool ensures
proper insertion depth.
Boeing is a trademark.
Reasons for reissue of this instruction sheet are
provided in Section 7, REVISION SUMMARY.
2. DESCRIPTION (See Figure 1)
Each insertion tool consists of a pliers and a jaw kit
except Tool -5 which includes four jaw kits (1976593-1
through -4). The jaw kit consists of a top jaw, bottom
jaw, and two thumbscrews. The top jaw is designed to
hold the cable and the bottom jaw is designed to hold
the shell during insertion of the ferrule.
The jaws are interchangeable between the pliers (of
the insertion tools) and the jaw mounts (of the pliers).
The jaw kits are also available separately (part
numbers are given in Figure 1).
3. JAW INSTALLATION AND REMOVAL
To install the jaws, proceed as follows:
1. Slide the top jaw onto either jaw mount of the
pliers until it stops. Make sure that the thumbscrew
faces outward. Tighten the thumbscrew.
2. Slide the bottom jaw onto the other jaw mount
until it stops. Make sure that the thumbscrew faces
outward. Tighten the thumbscrew.
3. Close the handles of the pliers until the jaws
bottom. Check that the jaws align.
To remove a jaw, loosen the thumbscrew, and slide the
jaw out of the jaw mount.
4. USING THE TOOL
NOTE
i
These instructions assume that the pin or socket
contact is properly installed onto the cable.

Refer to Figure 2, and proceed as follows:
1. Fully open the handles of the pliers.
2. Position the shell of the contact in the bottom jaw
so that the shoulder rests on the jaw.
3. Position the cable in the top jaw. Make sure that
the cable is straight.
4. Close the handles until the jaws bottom. Fully
open the handles, and pull the contact and cable
from the jaws.
