FEATURES AND SPECIFICATIONS
SFP Cage
Lightpipe Cover Assembly
Mechanically Integrated Lightpipe Cover Assembly Attaches to Molex’s Small Form-factor
Pluggable (SFP) Cage to Reduce Assembly Time and Eliminate Processing Issues
Designed to provide a “link” or “no link” status using
Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs) mounted on the PCB, the
integrated lightpipes and SFP cages allow the user
to reduce manufacturing time and therefore cost.
Lightpipes are attached to the cover with cage-mounted
tabs to ensure proper cover placement and positive
latching. The cover is applied to the cage after the cage
is pressed into the PCB, which ensures proper cage
placement on the PCB.
transceivers when plugged into host equipment, such as
network switches, routers, servers and storage devices.
Lightpipes and SFP cages are packaged and shipped
separately.

The SFP system follows the function of standard Gigabit
Interface Converter (GBIC) products, with reduced size
and increased data transfer rates at and beyond 2.5
Gbps. Ganged cages are used for EMI (Electro Magnetic
Interference) shielding of copper and optical pluggable
Features and Benefits
■ Lightpipes compensate for LED misalignment
ensuring uniform panel illumination
■ Lightpipes are mechanically attached to the SFP
lightpipe cover reducing assembly time and
eliminating processing issues
■ Cage-mounted tabs ensure proper cover placement
■ Lightpipe cover is separate from the actual SFP cage
allowing quality cage insertion and future upgrades
■ Rear and side mounted lightpipe configurations
(available on 1-by-1 and 1-by-2 versions) allow for
flexibility of PCB signal routing of LEDs
■ Application notes are provided on sales drawings
with recommended LEDs decreasing design time
and costs
