The MSD Self-Powered Timing Light uses six AAA alkaline batteries. The flash range will accurately
read through 8,000 rpm.
Parts Included:
1 - Timing Light
1 - Inductive Pickup
TIMING TIPS WITH THE SELF-POWERED TIMING LIGHT
• This timing light is equipped with 6 AAA batteries that can shift during transit and may cause the
timing light to operate erratically, or not at all. If the light does not operate properly, remove the
two screws and the rear cover to expose the battery holder. Remove the two covers and reseat the
batteries.
• There are two buttons to activate the timing light designed for easy reach. Operation is the same
with either button. The function switches can be easily (and inadvertently) depressed, so when
storing the timing light, make sure the area around the switches is clear. Otherwise, the batteries
will be dead on the next use.
• The inductive pickup is labeled to point towards the plug or distributor when installed on the spark
plug wire. This direction does not affect the MSD Timing Light.
• When installing the inductive pickup, try to isolate it from other spark plug wires to prevent any
possibility of other firing signals from interfering.
• Make sure the inductive pickup clamp is closed all the way to ensure good contact.
• When the batteries start to die the strobe will become erratic and intermittent.
• To replace the batteries, remove the two Phillips head screws on the outer edge of the back cover.
Slide the battery pack out and replace the batteries. Use care not to over-tighten the screws when
installing. When changing the batteries, if you see corrosion, you will need to clean and scrape
the terminals before installing the new batteries. If the corrosion is too severe, the timing light will
have to be sent in for service.
